The Turkish Boz Registry (TBR)
Preserving lineage. Verifying Authenticity. Advancing the breed
Why This Registry Exists
The Turkish Boz Shepherd Registry is here to ensure that every Boz Shepherd is documented with clarity and integrity. We are dedicated to preserving lineage, verifying parentage, and aligning with international standards to support breeders and owners. Our mission is not about control, but about fostering trust, accountability, and a clear path for the breed’s future.
What Sets This Registry Apart
Verification First: We prioritize accurate parentage verification and documentation review, ensuring that every registered dog meets our clear standards.
International Alignment: Our registry aligns with recognized international sources to ensure that pedigrees are consistent and credible.
Breeder Accountability: We hold breeders to high standards of ethics and transparency, ensuring that registration is a mark of quality, not just a formality.
How Registration Works
Registration with the Turkish Boz Shepherd Registry follows a structured process designed for accuracy and integrity.
Parentage and Microchipping: Owners must first ensure that the parent dogs are verified. If not already verified, parentage testing is required. Each dog must also be microchipped before registration.
Embark DNA Testing: The dog must undergo Embark DNA testing to confirm genetic information and health screening as part of the verification process.
TBR Registration Submission: Once parentage and DNA verification are complete, owners can submit their application to the TBR. This step enters the dog into the U.S. database.
Phenotype Evaluation (WAD): After being registered in TBR, owners can apply for a phenotype evaluation through the World Anatolian Dogs (WAD). This step assesses whether the dog meets the proper phenotype standards.
Hard Copy Pedigree Issuance (WAD): Once the dog is approved with a phenotype score, owners can then request a hard copy pedigree from WAD. This finalizes the full documentation process.
Note: Registration of your dogs with the Turkish Boz Registry does not automatically confer breeder status. Becoming a recognized breeder requires additional steps and a demonstrated commitment to the breed. We encourage those interested in breeding to follow the full guidelines and work closely with the registry to ensure best practices.
What You’ll Need to Start Registration:
Owner and Dog Details: Your contact info and basic dog details.
Microchip Number: A microchip is required for traceability, so make sure your dog is chipped.
Existing Paperwork: Any pedigree documents, vaccination records, or previous registration IDs.
Photos for Phenotype Evaluation: Provide front, side, teeth, head, rear angulation, and leg stance photos.
Parent Details: Information about the dog’s parents if available. (Dogs without verification will need to submit a Hardship application)
Note: These are the initial requirements to start registration. Every dog will still undergo a thorough inspection, phenotype evaluation, and DNA verification before final registration is approved.
Registration Outcomes
After review, dogs will fall into one of the following categories:
Approved & Registered
Meets requirements for identification, traceability, and documentation.
Conditional / Pending
Requires additional documentation, DNA results, or evaluation before approval.
Not Approved
Does not meet registry requirements at this time.
Important Notice:
Registration is not automatic. Approval is based on documentation, phenotype evaluation, and verification standards.
Why This Process Exists
This process exists to protect the integrity of the Turkish Boz Shepherd through accurate identification, traceable lineage, and consistent evaluation standards. Registration is not based on paperwork alone. Each dog is reviewed using documentation, phenotype evaluation, and verification methods to ensure records reflect the dog in front of us, not just what is written on paper.
The goal is long-term accountability, transparency, and preservation of the breed as it was intended, not convenience or volume.
Standards & Evaluation
Registration confirms identity. Evaluation determines eligibility.
All dogs submitted to the registry are reviewed against established standards focusing on phenotype, structure, documentation, and genetic verification. These standards exist to ensure consistency, accountability, and accurate representation of the Turkish Boz Shepherd.
Detailed evaluation criteria and breeding eligibility requirements are outlined separately.
